I Dared Myself (Welcome to The 5K Dare!)
Ever open your mouth and say something you almost wish you hadn’t?
I told my 16 year old son that I would run (or at least walk) the 5K with him this coming September.
Why would I say a horrible thing like that? Well, um, because…
- Bonding Time – Cross-country is my son’s thing. He’s ran in the 5K the last two years. I’d like to commit to spending more time with my children in their realm. So, to spend time with my son, it’s either this or video games. I’m thinking the run would be more beneficial to my health. Now, I just need to think of something I can do with my 14-year-old daughter. Maybe something not so outrageous?!?
- Improved Health – Every weight loss challenge goes by without much success. Maybe if I dare myself to my son and publicly to do something as outrageous as run in public, I will commit to the training it takes to get there, and lose some weight along the way. Also, my health could use some attention, as I recently gave birth to a beautiful second son. That means I have another 18+ years to raise a young’un. Being overweight and 36, I’ll need all the energy and strength to chase after a little one!
